Bahrain has established the Sustainable Energy Centre (SEC) through a Royal Decree by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
The SEC will be affiliated to the Cabinet and supervised by the Minister of Electricity and Water, said a Bahrain News Agency report.
The centre will undertake all tasks and responsibilities related to providing technical support for the relevant sides regarding the preservation of all kinds of sustainable energy sources, as well as enhancing their effective use, ensuring their secure use and encouraging investment in them, in cooperation with competent authorities, it said.
The Sustainable Energy Centre will have a chief executive officer with the rank of assistant undersecretary, who will report to the minister in charge. The CEO will be appointed as per a Royal Decree, based on a proposal by the minister, for renewable four-year terms.
