The upcoming first edition of Business Development and Investment in Healthcare and Medical Industries Forum (BDFEX) in Bahrain will focus on the localization of healthcare products in the kingdom, said event organisers.
Raja Zayani, a member of the organizing committee of BDFEX 2019 said that Bahrain imported medical products worth more than BD70 million ($184 million) in 2018. She added that this number draws the attention to the importance of establishing national industries that meet the needs of the medical and health sector, and ensure the enhancement of the concept of medicinal security in Bahrain in order to include also various types of health industries.
The event is being held on October 24 and 25 under the patronage of Lieutenant General doctor Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Supreme Council of Health, with a strategic partnership with Tamkeen Labor Fund organized by ProAct for International Consulting in Bahrain and United Gulf Investment Corporation in Saudi Arabia.
Zayani explained that the statistics of the Customs Affairs in Bahrain for year 2018 indicate that Bahrain has imported medical products for BD66.1 million from various countries around the world, including BD7.7 million from the Gulf States.
"The Gulf countries, at the forefront Saudi Arabia, followed by the UAE and Oman, contributed 8.11% of the Kingdom's total imports of medical products. This shows the desire of the Bahraini market for establishing different industries in the field of medical products." He said.
Dr Bomtaia added that BDFEX 2019' will bring up the most important solutions, ideas and innovations in the field of the pharmaceutical industry and healthcare and medical supplies in Bahrain, pointing out that Bahrain's imports of medical products indicate that Bahrain has imported medical solutions for about BD40 million.
The remaining amount was distributed on medicines containing antibiotics, needles for suturing, acupuncture, catheter tubes, insulin medicines, bandages, absorbent cotton, stitches, wicks and Bleeding hemostats, surgical stickies, products for filling, injection and dental and bone syringes, etc.
He confirmed that all the above mentioned products can be manufactured easily in Bahrain, especially as they do not require huge production lines or large quantities of electricity or water drains, in addition to the ease of exporting them due to small size, adding that the industry is making remunerative profits and it is attractive to investors. – TradeArabia News Service
